i appreciate christie admits his bromance. that's a good thing. >> okay. >> now, it wouldn't be cooler without lindsay lohan, an update on her. >> i love lindsay. >> she's addressing her money woes and also is hitting the road. she's reportedly selling all of heir worldly possessions, mainly her wardrobe and high-end vintage wear. and she's actually going to get on the road with a boy band, which i think is a great idea. so, she's promoting, selling her stuff. >> i love it. you know, lewis, i've got an idea. >> yeah. >> okay, so, we've done this telethon, sort of a telethon for our good friend, david axelrod, the mustache -- >> we're going to get rid of the mustache during "morning joe." >> why don't we offer to cut something off of somebody else for lindsay lohan? are you volunteering? >> what are you talk being? >> well, i think we should do a fund-raiser for lindsay lohan. >> what exactly are you cutting off? >> cut his eyebrows off! i love it. >> i know you're not going to touch this beautiful cloth of hair here. >>> all r

. >>> well, new jersey governor chris christie is making a personal plea for federal disaster aid in the wake of hurricane sandy. the republican governor paid an unannounced visit to the white house to ask the president for $83 billion in aid for new jersey, new york and connecticut. he also met with members of congress. it was their first meeting since touring new jersey disaster areas in late october. >>> tea party leader and some say gop king-maker, senator jim demint of south carolina, is stepping down from congress, this happening on january 1st. demint will become head of the heritage foundation. that's a conservative think tank with an $80 million-a-year budget. demint is just two years into a second six-year term, and south carolina governor nikki haley will appoint his successor. >>> so, 2012 was officially the most expensive election in american political history. the final reports show that spending on the campaign broke the $2 billion landmark and milestone in its final weeks, helping set the record. las vegas casino mogul sheldon adelson and his wife poured more than $95

the one way that it makes sense if you think of christie as running for office. he's running for 2016 bob and that he somehow believes there is still a basis for running against obama care in 2016. >> this is what i mean by the gop being in denial. they are captive of the ultra-conservatives, the right wing in their party. so they think politically and then they end up in opposition to what's happening in the nation. not just in terms of voting and election. i mean, they're on the wrong side of history in some of these issues. >> so christie is up against that. new jersey is not a backward retrograde state. >> neither is louisiana or mississippi. having lived in both, i'm just saying. >> i am not going to dump on your state or your home state of louisiana. but mississippi has had some problems going back a number of decades. but the republicans are never going to make any headway politically and they're never going to make headway socially/legislatively if they remain in denial about where the people are on some of these big issues. >> i want to ask you about thi

how much pressure does this additional pressure put on republicans, seeing chris christie show up at the white house knowing that he needs money for his hard-hit state? >> it's a tremendous amount of pressure. part of what the strategy of think of what we're see hearing is the republicans are becoming increasingly isolated. you think about the discharge position. essentially even if they don't sign on to it, the point is they're going to own this mess. they're the ones who are seen to be, as the public suggests, not willing to make a deal. it is not unreasonable. we've all seen those horrifying images from the devastation of hurricane sandy. it's not unreasonable the governor of the state of new jersey would come and say i need help. americans are going to see that. they see the republicans becoming increasingly sort of isolated and, again, it becomes this question of why are you holding the rest of us hostage for the top 2%? so the problem for the republicans is they don't have a lot of good options at this point to get themselves out of this corner. >> our power panel, my thanks to

is this, tony, a generational divide, the paul ryans and chris christie and bobby jindal? is it really that real divide with the very conservative wing of the party? and if either case, how do they bridge that divide moving forward? >> i do think there is a need to talk to america differently. maybe it is generational. i feel like i span that generation where i find myself now older than a lot of new republicans even elected officials right now -- >> they have the 80s class in now. >> i don't know how i became old but i have. but it does need to be a shift to new republicans. there a lot of them out there. frankly i'd love to see the media talk to a lot of new republicans, the jeb hencerlings and paul ryan and bobby jindal and marco rubio, a lot of strong, younger voices in the party i would like to see more on. i turn on the tv and see newt gingrich back on tv. he hasn't been a republican leader in about 16 years. that's a long time. we need to shift and hear some of the newer voices in the party. >> i have to say just because you have some gray hair doesn't mean you can
